Yes, you heard that right. Let’s be honest about the fact that resumes haven’t really caught up with how hiring works today.

People who write all the words such as “team player,” “fast learner,” “detail-oriented” … still get no calls.
Why? Because in 2025, that doesn’t matter anymore. What matters is that our recruiters want to see what YOU CAN ACTUALLY DO.

Not to mention, there are a few hard truths:

Most recruiters look at a resume for less than 60 seconds.
Around 76% of employers say they care more about skills than degrees.

And if you don’t show what you’ve done, you blend in just like everyone else.

So, what can you do instead?

No worries, I’ll help you out with a few simple things you can start doing today that actually work. Here are a few things to know

Listing skills don’t help anymore but showcasing them does. If you know Python, it’s great. But think about what you have built with it. Any special skills like designing using Canva? Awesome! - Show them your design portfolio. This makes a difference, trust me. Your project portfolio speaks more than your resume.

Always remember the fact that soft skills are still your superpower. Even if you’re not technically skilled, if you’re someone who can talk clearly, manage time, give feedback kindly, and work with people?! Boom - You're already a step ahead.

Keep learning whatever interests you and mention that as well in the interview. They don’t expect you to know everything; they expect you to keep learning.

Finally, here’s a quick bonus tip -

Start a little achievement folder just for yourself. Every time you learn something new, finish a project, or get appreciated, drop it in. On tough days or before big interviews, it’s a quiet reminder of how far you’ve come.

Be honest about where you’re at, and where you’re headed because that’s what employers care about now.
